Manchester City playmaker David Silva is set to join former Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez in Qatar, as per reports. Silva is expected to exit City this summer after a decade of meritorious service. The 34-year old once spoke of returning to the La Liga to play for Valencia but not much has been reported about that. He went through the club academy, playing for Valencia B in 2003 before joining the first team a year later.
Silva went on loan spells to Eibar and Celta de Vigo before stabilizing in 2005. For five years he was one of the best central and attacking midfielders in Spain. City convinced him to move to England in 2010 for 30 million euros. His talent speaks for him hence the buzz even though he is 34 and injury prone.
David Beckham’s Inter Miami has been linked asa major prospect. The MLS side want a star player to join its roaster and help build an identity. Former Barcelona star David Villa did the switch and is one of the most important players in MLS history.
Serie A side AC Milan are reportedly to be actively chasing Silva’s signature. They know the Premier League winner wants to leave England, and they want him to move to Italy rather than an emotional return to Spain.
Man City’s deal with Silva has been extended to the end of the current season as it was supposed to end in June. Latest reports claim Qatari side Al Sadd and Al-Duhail are keen on landing Silva – a celebrated European football star. Al-Duhail already have Mario Mandzukic and MedhiBenatia but they want to add the experienced midfield maestro.
Xavi manages Al Sadd and can easily convince his former international teammate to make the move and join him in Qatar. Xavi was once mooted as a coach for Barcelona but eventually nothing happened. His former teammate Samuel Eto’O recently revealed that he has told Xavi to return to Barca now that Lionel Messi is still available as it would be easier to achieve results.
