After having spent his entire career with Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez has finally ended his relationship with the Spanish club as he joined the Qatari side Al Sadd which will be his new club for the next 2 years.
Making a switch from Barcelona to Al Sadd is a huge move but at the age of 35, Xavi Hernandez had to be offloaded in order to give some of the younger players a chance to step up and get into the main team.
Even though Al Sadd does not have the same world class player or pieces of silverware that Barcelona has collected, Xavi Hernandez revealed his joy and said just how honored he is in joining the Qatari club.
Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez said: “I am very, very proud to be part and parcel of Al Sadd Football Club. I hope I will be able to lift all titles with this very important club and continue with my achievement. I would like to thank Al Sadd Sports Club and all the Qatari people.”
The experienced midfielder signed a 2 year long contract with Al Sadd but this can be extended to 3 year depending on how Xavi performs in his new club. The contract that Xavi Hernandez signed with Al Sadd has will also give him the responsibilities of being an ambassador for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup.
Xavi Hernandez still hasn’t played an official competitive match for Al Sadd but the Spanish player is already being considered to be as the best ever signing that the Qatari club has ever done. Xavi is the most decorated Spanish player of all time as he has won the Spanish League title on 8 occasions and the Champions League silverware 4 times. Those are just a few of the major trophies that he has lifted during his time performing with Barcelona.
Hopefully with all of this experience and success that Xavi has enjoyed, Al Sadd is hoping that he can influence the team and turn them into a title winning one or at least help them in this process.
